The Association 'A Hook for Parkinson's' will be able to finance a study project on Parkinson's patients to evaluate the effect of boxing training on the quality of life of these subjects.
The study will be conducted by Dr Silvia Ramat (neurologist at Careggi), Dr Paola Vanni (neurologist at the Hospital of Santa Maria Annunziata) and Dr Maurizio Bertoni of the Florence Training Lab where the training sessions will take place.
The project involves subjecting 20 patients to bi-weekly training for a period of three months. Specific tests will be carried out at the beginning of the treatment and at the end to assess any improvements.
The tests will be repeated after six months to verify the possible persistence of the benefits obtained.
The project was illustrated to Councillor Saccardi, specifying that it will be the first in Italy for this method.
The results, as the councillor emphasised, could therefore represent Tuscany's guidelines in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
