PRESS RELEASE - CORONAVIRUS, FREE DISTANCE LEARNING FOR PARKINSON'S PATIENTS
The Florentine association 'A hook for Parkinson's' launches a series of video lessons to help all those suffering from the disease stay active and on the move
Even Parkinson's, in the days of the Coronavirus, can be fought by staying at home. The Florentine association "A hook to Parkinson's"has launched a programme of free targeted training for all those suffering from this degenerative disease, to be carried out directly in the home, through a series of video lessons to be followed on Skype.
"At a complex time like this, it is crucial to offer support at a distance, especially to those with Parkinson's disease," explains the Dr Maurizio Bertonipresident of the Association. - These days, in fact, the patient with motor problems is confined to the home and is limited even in physical exercise, which is instead a fundamental element that can benefit mobility and also mood'.
The first lesson is scheduled for Thursday 9 April, at 11 o'clockand the next one will take place on Tuesday, 11 April, at the same time. "We will provide two lessons per week, lasting about half an hour," Bertoni explains. - We decided to address not only the 30 patients currently followed by the Association, but all Parkinson's sufferers who would like to participate". The training sessions will take place via video call on Skype, in connection with a qualified instructor, and will include a muscular warm-up phase, a series of free-body exercises, plus a series of movements that simulate boxing blows (strikes, dodges, etc.).
The Association 'Un gancio al Parkinson' is in fact the first in Italy to apply boxing training to Parkinson's patients. An innovative strategy, which is yielding considerable benefits at the motor level, even in the medium to long term. At the moment, it follows 30 patients free of charge, within the Training Lab centre in Florence. Of these, 25 have already joined the distance training programme.
Anyone interested in participating, or needing more information, can call 320.7516674.
